Hand Thrown Pottery

I decorate both my own hand thrown pottery and purchased bisque.

This hand thrown plate is about 11.5 inches in diameter.  It is painted in the traditional oak leaf pattern described in the 16th century book "The Three Books of the Potter's Art".  This plate was awarded as a prize for the heavy weapons tournament at the SCA event Steppes Warlord XXXIII.

Medieval Bestiary

This is an unusually shaped bowl with an oversized rim.  It is a reproduction of a piece in the British Museum.  The piece was hand thrown to match the size of the 16th century piece.  All decoration was done with one blue underglaze.  The shading was achieved by diluting the color.  This piece was awarded a blue ribbon at the 2005 Texas State Fair Ceramics competition.

Here is a selection of some of my less elaborate hand thrown and painted pottery.
