Mary's Maiolica Arts

Hand Painted Ceramics - Plates

I do a variety of plates in 15th and 16th century styles. I create historical reproductions and original designs that use historical or traditional motifs. I use food safe glazes so my plates are functional as well as decorative.

All the plates on this page were hand painted using commercially made ceramic glazes and underglazes on commercially made ceramic bisque in modern standard sizes.

Historical Recreations

These plates are recreations of historic 16th century Italian maiolica designs.

Original Designs in Traditional Themes

There is a large variety of traditional motifs and styles in historic Italian maiolica.  I create many designs that use these traditional motifs. One of my favorite motifs is the peacock feather. I also use tradition vinework, fish scales, Persian motifs and traditional geometric motifs.
